Inspiring Educators Who Inspire Future Leaders

School Isn’t for Children Anymore – A Teacher’s Perspective

While preparing to go back to school this morning after spending yesterday digging out from yet another heavy snowfall in the North East, I ran across a piece from Washington Post writer, Valerie Strauss that I knew I had to share with all of you.  Strauss shares a letter written by a veteran teacher in Ohio who worries (like many educators) about the amount of time we are devoting to test preparation versus the amount of time we spend in actual teaching instruction. I think it is an especially important perspective given the time of year and the conversation occurring on Twitter and Facebook concerning the growing concerns from teachers about the significance of standardized testing in education today. tlb
