On Wednesday, January 18, 2017, President Barack Obama delivered his final press conference. During his speech, he once again spoke to the press about the importance of seeing ourselves in others. While this has been a consistent message throughout Mr. Obama’s presidency, the message affected me more this time because Mr. Obama so artfully personalized this message by reminding everyone that he believes America is good and that “if we work hard and are true to those things in us that feel true and feel right the world [will] get a little better each time.” This is a message that I hope resonates with others particularly those of us who work each day to help children look beyond themselves to see the good in others. My simple haiku poem (above) does not come close to summarizing my appreciation for Mr. Obama’s unflappable spirit and dedication to doing his best every day. tlb
