Which skills are the most important to teach in the 21st century? I know this is a question that I’ve pondered more times than I can count (and, as a result, my list changes every single moment). If you’ve ever thought about this question, check out the “universal skills all learners should know how to do” by Jackie Gerstein then ask yourself: which skills resonant with you and are essential to the 21st century learner; at which moment/stage in the learning process do we teach each skill; what do we stop teaching; how do we help students connect these skill sets to the real world; what about resources (especially if there do not currently exist); and how do we accomplish the items on this list and many more? tlb
This morning I was thinking about the things that all young people should know how to do regardless of income, geographical location, life goals, etc. I started a list – see below. Some have “always” been true – some are unique to this century of learning. Let me know of any other universal skills you believe young people should know how to do.
