During this year’s fall leadership retreat, our team took a hike on a trail in a rural area with lots of creepy crawly things. I was a bundle of nerves because spending time in nature … not really where I feel the most comfortable. While I understand my fears are unfounded, they are deep-rooted nonetheless.
I decided to take my own advice and step out of my comfort zone during the hike, and it paid off big time. Not only did I survive the thirty minute hike, but I was able to connect with a colleague while co-leading the rest of the pack.
Why is it so hard for adults to do the things we ask our students to do every day? During the school year, I intend to take some of my own advice: if at first you don’t succeed; try, try again.
