Inspiring Educators Who Inspire Future Leaders

Striking a Balance Between Time in the Office and in the Classroom

balanceFellow administrators if you are like me, one of your goals each day is to get out of the office and into the classroom. While this may be a goal, the reality can sometimes be very challenging given the day-to-day responsibilities of most administrators. Striking a balance between time spent in the office and in the classroom can be achieved; however, it means one must:

  • Be a planner while also being flexible (adapts easily to whatever comes up during the school day),
  • Someone who can manage time effectively,
  • Someone who can delegate; and
  • Someone who understands his or her limits

While this list is not extensive, I do believe that developing these qualities can help any administrator better juggle those important moments during the day. Ultimately, I believe time spent in the office and in the classroom should be meaningful; therefore, my best advice is to make the most of your time with faculty, students, and parents during the day. tlb
