Google Classroom Tool For Teachers Is Here

students-with-tablets

In mid-July, I shared the news that the folks at Google were nearing the end of their pilot project and were gearing up to launch Google Classroom. When the project was first announced in May, many thought the online tool would not be available for use until sometime in September; however, it is now open and available for use by all Google Apps for Education users. zdnet.com gives  several reasons Google’s Classroom project is worth a look:

  • “Google Classroom is available in 42 languages”
  • It works well on “mobile devices and most popular screen readers”
  • “It is an online tool that integrates Google Drive, Docs, and Gmail”
  • It can be used  “to assign and collect work online;” giving students and teachers “an opportunity to work [both] in and outside of the classroom”
  • “Google Classroom is ad-free and data will not be used for marketing purposes”
  • Google’s willingness “to use data gained from educators, from across the country, to help shape its online tool is another very good reason to consider Google Classroom for your classroom.”
  • And, it is free!

Check out Google Apps for Educators for more information about Google Classroom (remember, Classroom is only available for Google Apps for Education users at this time). tlb
