Game based learning is on the rise! This is very exciting news for students (especially math students) because, as these games become easier to access and to use, schools are paying more attention to the educational value of using games to enhance math instruction.
According to Edutopia blogger, Patrick Feeney, there is growing “evidence pointing toward the effectiveness of game-based learning.” Feeney believes that “cost and logistical issues around software installation remain a barrier to the adoption [of game based learning] in many schools; however, he also believes schools now benefit from lots of different kinds of gaming options (at different cost) — like traditional board games, video games, and (Feeney’s favorite) tablet-based apps.
