The Year of the Code | Edutopia

coding 17 Apps for Teaching Children Coding Skills | Edutopia.

During this year’s Computer Science Education Week (December 9-15) educators were asked to devote one hour to coding within the classroom. This year’s emphasis on coding was an important one because, like the experts at Edutopia, I also see the value of coding since “everything that my students use has some type of code that makes it run.” My school decided to use the week to really showcase some amazing things in math and science (like our use of coding in the work we do with robotics technology and Legos). We also thought it was important to use the week to help parents understand the significance of coding, and how easy it is for young children to learn and understand. The folks at Edutopia put together a great list of apps for teaching children to code both inside and outside the classroom. I hope it will inspire others to think about coding in their schools! tlb
