Inspiring Educators Who Inspire Future Leaders

Building Momentum …

Last week, I had another great meeting with the Board of Trustees to discuss Collegiate’s DEIB goals and priorities. Over the past three years, we have been intentionally integrating DEIB language into school programming, normalizing discussions around DEIB, and encouraging self-reflection and narrative building among students, faculty, and parents. We have utilized the Intercultural Engagement Core Competency (IECC) as a framework that fosters the development of students’ identities while also promoting respect and compassion for others.

During the meeting, I highlighted three key factors that will help the school maintain the momentum of its DEIB work in the future: 1. Institutionalizing the gains made over the past three years and expanding the work beyond the curriculum into other areas of the school. 2. Actively working to create a community that promotes safe spaces and nurtures individual identity and perspective when challenged by external influences. 3. Continuously providing support from the Head of School, administration, and Board of Trustees in providing financial and emotional assistance to continue this work is vital.

Moving forward, the impact of the school’s DEIB efforts on the community and individual students will continue to grow with the creation of additional personnel support at each division level, greater increases in DEIB funding, and fully incorporating DEIB initiatives into the school’s operating budget. hashtag#dei hashtag#belonging hashtag#safety hashtag#childdevelopment hashtag#communityimpact Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) National Association of Independent Schools
