Inspiring Educators Who Inspire Future Leaders

Summer Planning: 10 Things to Do This Summer to Advance Your Career

career-development

There are educators who will look at this post and think – this list does not work for me because I am a teacher. Well I am here to tell you that this list of 10 things to do this summer to advance your career absolutely makes sense for anyone in the field of education. Why? As life-long learners, we should always look for ways to “have a measurable impact on our careers.” J.T. O’Donnell, CEO of Careerealism, provides practical suggestions on how to create “a measurable impact” on your career. J.T.’s suggests you:

  •  Socialize as much as possible
  • Create a visual board of your career in 10 years
  • Pick a “Summer of _____” theme
  • Write a blog post
  • Write another blog post
  • Take up a new hobby to leverage the H3 (hands, head, and heart) Effect
  • Unplug completely once/week
  • Create a mantra for overcoming you biggest career obstacle
  • Curate content two times/day at peak times
  • Learn how to leverage virtual networking events

I recognize  everyone’s career path is different; however, being the best educator means you have to work every day to be the best professional you can be. And, there is no better time than the summer to try one or all of J.T.’s suggestions to help make next year your best year yet. Check out J.T.’s list here for more details. tlb
